The Ethiopian Community In Seattle has space available to rent for members and non-members within the Puget Sound to utilize its services and space. The hall is equipped with free “wifi”, and Café onsite for your convenience. For more information on the Café please inquire within.

Rental Use and Fees

Reservations to rent the Ethiopian Community In Seattle Rental Hall (ECS-RA) are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. A reservation is complete and binding once a damage deposit of $350.00 and 50% of the rental fee is received and this rental agreement signed.

Please review the fine print below before signing the ECS agreement.

Maximum Occupancy:

* Large Room maximum occupancy approximately 390 people, approximately . 250.00 banquet style seating.

* Small Room maximum occupancy approximately 100 people; approximately. 75 banquet style seating

Pricing and Payment Notes:

  • Cancellations must be done in advance notice: (31calendar days prior to the event date). In this case the full Damage Deposit and any payments you might have made will be refunded minus the $30.00 processing fee.
  • Damage Deposit will be returned to you within 15 days after your event. The refunded amount is subject to any charges for damage to property/premises and cleanliness of the place. If damages and fees assessed are greater than the $350.00, damage deposit for the large room or $150 for the small room, the remainder will be billed to you.
  • We accept checks, cash and money order. Please make checks payable to “ETHIOPIAN COMMUNITY IN SEATTLE”; checks will be deposited on date of payment. If checks do not clear, you will be billed a bounced check fee of $45.00 in addition to the original balance due.
  • Prices above are fixed. We have two categories of discounts. 1) Registered members of ECS with 6 months of prior membership will receive 10% off of total hall rental (kitchen/deposit/additional hours not included) Renter must prove he/she is renting the property for the specified use and by the specified user.

Requirements & Restrictions

  • Hold Harmless: Once the applicant signs this agreement, it becomes a binding legal contract.  The user accepts responsibility for any injury to persons or property that is a result of user actions.  The user agrees to reimburse ETHIOPIAN COMMUNITY IN SEATTLE for any damages to the property or costs incurred as the result of user actions.
  • Security: All applications will be looked at case by case to determine the need for security. All concert and DJ parties serving alcohol ARE REQUIRED TO have security personnel hired and paid by the renter. The rental representative reserves the right to require event security before the agreement is signed. The renter is fully responsible for hiring and paying security.
  • Smoking: Both King County Board of Health Code 19.03 and Washington state law RCW 70.160 prohibit smoking in all public places and places of employment, including within twenty-five feet of these enclosed places.
  • Decorations/Set-up:
  • ECS will provide 20 round tables and 200 folding chairs for use with your rental. Extra chairs are available.
  • For decorations the use of glue, nails, tacks or staples is strictly forbidden. You may use masking tape or painters tape to hang decorations. No tape of any kind may be used on the floors. Absolutely no taper candles – you may use floating or votive candles only. Decoration and Set-up is not provided.
  • ECS does not provide a sound system. Renter must provide their own.
  • Parking: The property within the gates has 55 regular and 2 wheelchair accessible spaces. All spaces are available for use except that the wheelchair accessible spaces must be used with a permit. Any cars double parked or exceeding the 57 total parking spaces will be towed. Additional street parking is available as long as legally parked. ECS is not responsible for providing parking security/attendance; any damaged or stolen/lost cars are the responsibility of the renter.
  • Lost/stolen Items: ECS is not responsible for any lost items.
  • Alcoholic Beverages:

○      Serving wine or beer (free or by sale) is permitted with a banquet permit that must be posted during the duration of the event. This license can be obtained online and can be obtained anytime. You must present the permit when you check in on the day of the event.  A copy of the license will be kept along with a copy of your rental agreement.

○      Selling alcohol is permitted with an event license issued by the Washington State Liquor Control Board (applications are usually due 45 days before the event). You must present the license when you check in on the day of the event. A copy of the license will be kept along with a copy of your rental agreement.

  • A Facility Use Checklist must be completed by the applicant and rental representative immediately before and after rental.  Failure to do so may result in forfeit of damage deposit.

*Rental Hall and Facility must be handed back to rental representative in the agreed upon condition, before the agreed upon time expiries. Failure to complete this before the agreed upon time will result in a deduction of fees from the damage deposit, the remaining balance will be billed to you.

  • Cleaning Up:

o    ECS does not provide garbage bags, towels, gloves, or dish soap; Please bring your own.

o    The renter will be responsible for taking down and disposing of all decorations, disposing of all leftover   food and beverage items, separating trash and recycling to the outside dumpster and recycling bin. Leaving the kitchen clean (wipe off all counters & appliances, clean floors, turn off equipment).

o    Kitchen floor must be thoroughly cleaned and wet mopped.

o    Chairs must be stacked on racks provided.

o    Tables must be folded and placed back in its original location (storage room).

ECS rental management reserves the right to refuse a rental application if, in their judgment, they determine the applicant is unwilling or unable to insure that they and their guests will take proper care in use of the property. In addition, ECS reserves the right to order the cessation of all activities and the immediate evacuation of the building and premises. In the event the renter is directed to leave the premises, they acknowledge they shall not be entitled to a refund of any portion of their rental fees. Failure to comply with an order to vacate may also result in the forfeiture of deposit and notification of the proper authorities.

Renter is guaranteed access to the Rental Hall for showing before he/she submit their completed rental application. Any additional request for showing aside from the agreement signing date will be granted as needed.
