Programs

ECS provides a wide range of programs tailored to meet the needs of community members. ECS focuses on providing support to promote physical and mental health, education and housing. Meeting these basic needs continues to be crucial to the economic and social empowerment of Ethiopians and Ethiopian Americans.

Our Programs

Social Services

ECS provides social services to its community, including referrals for housing and employment and citizenship services. Historically this work has been focused on helping first-generation Ethiopians who are new to the US, and ECS has recently extended these services to second generation community members. ECS also provides support with legal paperwork such as powers of attorney forms and notarization.

Health

The health program has an overall goal of improving disparities in health access and outcome. The program is designed and implemented in collaboration with the Ethiopian Health Board which is comprised of medical professionals of Ethiopian origin. All activities are culturally aware and delivered in Amharic. With a trusted connection to the community and the invaluable support of the Ethiopian Health Board, ECS is well placed to make a positive difference in the lives of its members.

Business Resiliency

ECS works to promote and sustain small businesses within the Ethiopian community as a member of the Small Business Resiliency Network sponsored by the Washington State Department of Commerce. Through the program, ECS provides culturally relevant support, including education and job placement assistance, to small business owners within the Ethiopian community.

Education/ Cultural competence

ECS provides resources for youth and young adults that educate and promote awareness of their Ethiopian culture and heritage, and empower them to embrace their cultural identity. In the past, the organization has hosted summer/winter camps, cultural immersion classes, drama and dance performances, tutoring services and computer classes. Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, most education services are not being offered at this time. Information on tutoring can be found here.
